Day 41 Glacier National Park

Another day, another minor disaster. We made the 6-hour drive to Glacier National Park, stopping at the large Flathead Lake to walk the dogs and take in the view. But as soon as we entered the Glacier Park, we noticed a very large noise coming from behind the truck. We pulled over and noticed a flat tire on the trailer, or more exactly no tire. Sean changed the tire, and we continued into the park. We stopped at the Appgar Visitor Center and walked the dogs for a mile toward the Appgar Village, where we saw the views of the mountains beyond Lake McDonald.

The park covers more than 1 million acres and includes parts of two mountain ranges, more than 130 named lakes, more than 1,000 different species of plants, and hundreds of species of animals. This ecosystem earns the park the nickname “Crown of the Continent Ecosystem.”

The campgrounds, trails, and shops in the park are nicer than any of the other parks I have seen. There are many lodges, cafes, gift shops, and areas where you can rent canoes and kayaks. My travel plan didn’t allow for much time in the park, but it is certainly the sort of place where one can go “glamping” for a week or spend the time hiking the trails and camping in tents or trailers.

We left the park and headed to the nearby Devil Creek Campground in the Flathead National Forest. It is a small campground in between mountains and alongside the Bear Creek.

I have now seen 24 of the 48 states! The rest come in the next 29 days.

Pictures include one from Flathead Lake, one of the dead tire (after I mounted it on the location for the spare tire),a few from the National Park, and one of the creek near the campsite.
