From Day 55 until the end of the trip, I would be back in the Eastern Time Zone. I left the north side of the Upper Peninsula near Munising and drove to the southeast side. Thus, for the second day in a row, I viewed the largest lake in the USA (Superior) and the second largest (Michigan) on the same day. Lake Michigan is also the largest lake wholly contained within the USA borders. Driving along the southern part of the peninsula, I again saw terrific views of the shoreline, including at a designated turnout called the Epoufette Bay Scenic View. This spot was also frequented by gulls which seemed oblivious to people, as if they owned the place (which they do).
A few minutes later I arrived at the Mackinaw Bridge and exited the Upper Peninsula towards the larger portion of the state along I-75 (which runs from the top of Michigan down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida). I passed a number of very large lakes along the way, including the Cadillac, Missaukee, Houghton, Higgins, Burtt, and Mullet Lakes
I arrived at the Lake Michigan Recreation Area near Manistee in the Huron-Manistee National Forest in midafternoon and took the dogs for a short hike to the beach area. Again, there were gorgeous views. We then had dinner and settled in for the night. The campground was heavily treed, so I had no connectivity with my Starlink. Otherwise, this was another nice campground.
Photos include the Epoufette Bay and its gulls, a view near the Mackinaw Bridge, the bridge itself, and a view from the Lake Michigan Recreation Area.
